     I chose my famous American, Jackie Robinson, because he is very interesting. Why? Because he broke the color barrier. He also started his own business. Go to this web site if you want to know more about Jackie Robinson.

 

 

Was the first African American to play baseball in the major leagues.

 

         Broke the color barrier in the sport of baseball. Was a role model for all kinds of races, but especially African Americans.

 

Jackie Roosevelt Robinson on January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia.

 

 

Was the fifth child of five. Jackie had a rough life as a child.

 

 

Mallie was the name of the mom and she was left by her husband

 

 

when Jackie was born.    

 

 

Jerry was the name of the dad he had three wife’s after divorcing Mallie.

 

 

Jackie Robinson had three brothers named Edgar, Frank, and Matthew.

 

         

 

 

The oldest brother was Edgar.

 

 

The brother Mathew was a good athlete and won the

 

 

 Silver medal in the Summer Olympics of 1936.

 

 

Jackie also Had 1 sister, Willa Mae, fourth oldest child. The Mother and children moved to Pasadena,

 

 

California, after Jackie’s father left the family.

 

 

Jackie’s mother worked as a nurse and a domestic.

 

         

 

 

Jackie Robinson entered UCLA in 1939. In college Jackie played many sports.

 

He played basketball, football, track and field, soccer, and of course baseball.

 

He set the national junior track and field record for long jump. Jackie left college in 1941.

 

 

 

 

married Rachel Annetta Isum. His daughter’s name was Sharon Robinson.

 

 

His sons name was Jackie Robinson Jr.    He made his own Construction Business

 

 

for family’s that doesn’t have money, a house or food.

 

 

          Jackie Robinson was the fist ever African American to play in the major

 

 

leagues he inspired many people especially African American’s.

 

 

          Jackie was the first ever African American to be elected in the baseball Hall of Fame.

 

      

 

Was awarded the Rookie of the year.

 

 

Jackie made books, news paper more exiting. One day I hope to be a really
